Dear Respected Aspirants of Medical Education in Georgia,

On September 15, 2022, Embassy of India, in Yerevan published “Advisory to Indian Students Seeking Admission in Georgia”
After reviewing answers, provided by the “Georgian Authorities”, to the various inquiries by the Indian students aspiring for medical studies in Georgia, we discovered few technical mistakes and inconsistances which may play important role for Indian students seeking admission in higher medical educational institutions in Georgia. We already informed Georgian authorities regarding the issue and are working together with our colleagues from other universities to provide Embassy of India with correct answers, supported by Georgian Legislation.
Before new, corrected advisory is published, we take it as our responsibility to provide clarification on some of the answers to the questions addressed in the document.
1. Question ii) what is the duration of the internship/clinical rotations in the medical course (MD)?
Answer: students take pre-clinical subjects during first 3 years (6 semesters) of the medical education. Mandatory clinical rotations start from the 4th year of the program. Semesters 9 through 12 (Year 5 and 6) are almost entirely clinical rotations amounting to approximately 120 ECTS during 4 semesters.
2. Question v) Does an Indian (MD) student get registered under any professional regulatory body or otherwise under any institution that is competent to grant a license at par to the citizens of Georgia
Answer: MD Students, regardless of nationality, are registered as students by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
Graduates of the State Accredited higher medical educational institution, regardless of nationality are awarded diploma which is registered in the national registry of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and are eligible to participate in the national post-diploma qualification examination in Georgian Language to obtain medical practice license for Georgia.
A student of a higher medical educational institution, a medical resident, a physician job seeker, a junior doctor regardless of nationality, have rights to perform the duties of a doctor according to Law of Georgia on Medical Education. Graduates of the State Accredited higher medical educational institution, regardless of nationality, can occupy position of a junior doctor. Article 5 - Law of Georgia On Medical Practice https://matsne.gov.ge/en/document/view/15334?publication=17
“A citizen of Georgia or of a foreign country, or a stateless person, who graduated from a state-accredited higher medical institution of Georgia and obtained a state certificate of independent medical practice under this Law ('a state certificate'), shall have the right to engage in independent medical practice.” Article 7 - Law of Georgia On Medical Practice https://matsne.gov.ge/en/document/view/15334?publication=17
