The PPS course is one of the fundamental pillars of medical education at Ken Walker International University. Led by Gvantsa Vardosanidze, the program guides students in developing essential professional and personal qualities - effective communication, ethical decision-making, patient-centered care, and a deep understanding of the physician’s role within society.
A distinctive component of the PPS curriculum at KWIU is the participation of a professional actor, who portrays a patient and follows a carefully designed clinical scenario. This innovative format enables students to:
• apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course,
• gather accurate and relevant information from the simulated patient,
• formulate an appropriate diagnosis,
• develop and present a coherent treatment plan.
Through interactive sessions, realistic simulations, and continuous mentorship, PPS empowers students to grow into compassionate, competent, and responsible future physicians.
As Gvantsa Vardosanidze notes: “Based on my several years of experience teaching this course, I can say how evident and visible the students’ academic and personal development becomes after each activity planned within the PPS course. Students’ clinical, communication, and professional skills - as well as their confidence and competence - grow remarkably.
The daily experience gained through their hands-on practice, intensive communication and work with a simulated patient, discussions on ethical issues, and the completion of teamwork assignments all help students acquire and refine the competencies essential for a future physician. These experiences prepare them for real clinical practice, making this program unique and highly valuable.”
