“One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives,” – on June 14, KWIU students once again united in support of a meaningful cause. Through a blood donation campaign organized in partnership with the Blood Bank of the Hematology Institute, participants helped make a difference in the lives of patients in need, proving that even a single donation can have a life-saving impact.
World Blood Donor Day was first observed in 2004 and was officially established by the World Health Organization in 2005. The date is linked to the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the Austrian scientist whose discovery of the ABO blood group system laid the foundation for modern transfusion medicine.
This year’s global campaign slogan is: “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” Inspired by this message, KWIU students once again came together to support those in need through voluntary blood donation.
As in previous years, KWIU students actively participated in the blood donation campaign, demonstrating that solidarity, compassion, and social responsibility remain core values within the university community.
As part of the event, an educational student corner was organized by KWIU’s Medical Society. Club members provided donors and visitors with information about the importance of blood donation, donor eligibility criteria, and the real impact each donation can have on saving lives.
At the end of the event, participants received certificates and gifts from the Blood Bank of the Hematology Institute and KWIU’s Student Services Office.
It was especially encouraging to see so many students eager to participate in the campaign. Blood donation has become a valued tradition at KWIU, bringing students together each year around a shared goal – helping those who need it most.
KWIU will continue to organize similar social and educational initiatives in the future and warmly welcomes everyone who wishes to become part of this meaningful cause. If you were unable to donate this time, we look forward to seeing you at future blood donation events.
