Ken Walker International University has launched a Narrative Medicine lecture series led by Tori Ehrhardt, an Emergency Medicine physician at Emory University School of Medicine and a fellow in the Emory Medical Toxicology Program.
Dr. Ehrhardt is visiting KWIU as an invited American specialist. During her visit, students are participating in a variety of academic and practical activities, including the Narrative Medicine course, which is conducted in small groups.
The course aims to introduce students to the importance of patients’ stories and experiences in clinical practice, strengthen empathetic communication skills, and promote a patient-centered approach to healthcare.
Throughout the course, students analyze patient experiences and clinical narratives, helping them better understand the patient’s perspective and the importance of the physician–patient relationship. The sessions also include discussions and activities based on best practices in contemporary medical education.
The Narrative Medicine course provides KWIU students with an opportunity to explore the role of empathy, effective communication, and patient experience alongside their medical education, helping them develop a more holistic approach to patient care.
