Ken Walker International University (KWIU), Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) and Emory University, under a trilateral agreement, hosted a specialized training course on hospital-acquired infection control and prevention, conducted by experts from the U.S. Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR).
The training sessions, held November 4-8, 2024, took place at Ken Walker International University and Tbilisi State Medical University’s First University Clinic. The program was led by infectious disease specialists from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and the Army Medical Department, including Col. Roseanne Ressner, Capt. Benjamin Custer, and Col. Jason Bennett.
Participants included staff from TSMU’s First University Clinic, Givi Zhvania Pediatric Clinic, and Gori Military Hospital. The purpose of the training was to develop both theoretical and practical competencies essential for infection prevention and control in healthcare settings. The seminars and workshops covered topics such as techniques for identifying nosocomial infections, preventive measures, and contemporary principles for infection risk assessment and management.
Ken Walker International University maintains a close partnership with the U.S. Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Georgia. In September 2024, the Walter Reed Institute hosted a KWIU delegation in Washington, D.C., where discussions focused on collaborative initiatives, including the planning of this training program.
