As part of the “Summer at Emory” - Introduction to U.S. Medical Education and Healthcare Services Program, Ken Walker International University our students visited Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in the U.S.

Guided by Dr. Ziad Kazzi, a renowned emergency physician and medical toxicologist at Emory University, students gained first-hand exposure to the realities of emergency and trauma care in a high-intensity clinical environment. Dr. Kazzi walked them through the hospital’s Emergency Department, trauma units, critical care facilities, and toxicology services, explaining how Grady served as a Level I Trauma Center and plays a vital role in Atlanta’s healthcare system.

Beyond the tour, students participated in an engaging discussion with Dr. Kazzi, who shared his professional journey, perspectives on the U.S. healthcare system, and valuable advice on preparing for the USMLE exams and pursuing residency training. A special focus of the session was on research opportunities, with Dr. Kazzi encouraging students to take part in projects that could strengthen both their academic and professional growth.

The experience at Grady Memorial Hospital offered KWIU students a unique and inspiring look into American clinical practice, reinforcing the program’s mission of equipping future physicians with global perspectives in medicine.
