As part of the our 'Summer at Emory' Program, KWIU students had the privilege to meet two successful Georgian doctors, who are now continuing their outstanding careers in the United States - Dr. Nodari Maisuradze, Cardiology Fellow at Emory University, and Dr. Nikoloz (Nick) Shekiladze, an outstanding Interventional Cardiologist at Emory University Hospital.
Dr. Shekiladze is passionate about helping patients through advanced cardiac procedures - from placing stents to repairing valves. As a member of Emory’s nationally recognized cardiology team, he also mentors future cardiologists, contributing to the advancement of the field. After completing the American MD Program in Georgia in 2019, Nodari Maisuradze continued his career in the United States, enrolling in an Internal Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York. Upon successfully completing his residency, he served as a Chief Resident at the same institution, after which he pursued a Cardiology fellowship at Emory University.Currently, Nodari Maisuradze is actively involved in research activities at Emory Hospital, including the project “Clinical Outcomes Research in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease.”
During this inspiring session, Dr. Shekiladze and Dr. Maisuradze shared their journeys from Tbilisi to Emory, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of medical education and career growth in the U.S. Their stories of dedication, hard work and success left our students motivated to pursue their own paths in medicine with confidence.
Encounters like this connect our students with role models and remind them that with determination, international success is possible.
