As part of the 2025 'Summer at Emory' Program, 8 medical students from Ken Walker International University had the remarkable opportunity to visit the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia.
During this exclusive visit, the students met with Dr. Roland Mathew, a distinguished gynecologist and oncologist at the Morehouse Cancer Center, who, together with Emory Educational Program Director, Archil Undilashvili, and Program Coordinator, Nini Zardiashvili (Head of Student Services and Public Relations at KWIU), guided them through the state-of-the-art facilities.
The tour provided students with firsthand exposure to cutting-edge cancer treatment approaches, modern medical technologies, and the compassionate, patient-centered care model that defines Winship’s vision. This eye-opening experience deepened their understanding of oncology and strengthened their commitment to pursuing excellence in medicine.
Opened in May 2023, the Winship Cancer Institute stands as a beacon of innovation in oncology care. The 17-story, 450,000-square-foot facility, supported by a $200 million gift from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, integrates research-driven, multidisciplinary cancer treatment while placing patients at the heart of care.
Beyond the tour, the Summer at Emory Program continues to provide KWIU students with a transformative introduction to U.S. medical education and healthcare services. Through lectures, workshops, and site visits, participants expand their knowledge, build international connections, and gain valuable insights that will shape their future careers in medicine.
